Landry Callender, a recent LSU graduate, begins her career as an Environmental Engineer at Sustainable Design Solutions

Sustainable Design Solutions is pleased to announce its recent hire, Landry Callender. Landry is a Staff Engineer based out of our Baton Rouge, Louisiana office working with staff on water, wastewater, stormwater, and coastal restoration projects.

Landry is currently training in the office and will soon join the field team to provide stormwater inspections.

I’m excited about this new opportunity to join the Sustainable team and look forward to tackling projects and gaining real-world, hands-on experience.

For over three years, Landry was a student worker for the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LADEQ). She learned about environmental requirements, lab testing, and accreditation methods.

Through her undergraduate work-study experience, she gained knowledge of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) role. Knowing what it takes to comply with the EPA and the LADEQ guidelines is essential to solving clients’ problems. Landry’s experience includes reviewing Proficiency Tests for accredited labs, logging the results, and notifying appropriate parties when a lab violates EPA standards.

Landry explains the premise ‘Think Global, Act Local’ inspires her and is what initially gave her a new perspective on creating sustainable solutions to environmental challenges.

Earlier this year, Landry and her senior design project team placed first at the WERC Environmental Design Contest at New Mexico State University. Their coastal restoration project studied using a coagulant to cut the cost of a typical Coastal Protection Restoration Authority dredging project.

While researching local design firms, she learned about Sustainable Design Solutions. She was impressed with the company and loved that it was a woman-owned business supporting women in STEM.

It’s an excellent place to start my career and gain experience. Sustainable’s project diversity will expose me to more aspects of designing and implementing civil works projects, explains Landry.

Originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Landry says she was always an LSU Tiger fan, following in her mother’s footsteps of becoming an LSU alumna. She is also an Alpha Phi alumna and enjoys volunteering in the community. Welcome to the team, Landry!
